Özet

The transition to solar energy is vital for achieving carbon neutrality and meeting the 2030 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). However, current photocatalysts do not yet meet industrial requirements. Titanium-based metal–organic frameworks (Ti-MOFs) hold great promise for solar-driven CO₂ conversion, but their efficiency and scalability remain limited by complex activation processes and restricted charge transfer, hindering practical application.

To address these challenges, this project proposes integrating Ti-MOF hybrids into continuous flow-photocatalysis (f-PC) systems to enhance light harvesting, mass transfer, and selectivity under mild conditions. The approach employs hydrogen atom transfer (HAT) photocatalysis to generate reactive carbon radicals, enabling direct C(sp³)–H functionalization of alkanes—one of the most challenging transformations in synthetic chemistry—followed by a range of photocatalytic reactions such as carbonylation (using CO derived from CO₂), heteroarylation, allylation, acylation, and amination.

Innovation will be driven by:

(i) designing tailored Ti-MOF hybrids through the formation of covalently linked molecular metal complexes, graphene acid or mesoporous g-C₃N₄, and engineered architectures (e.g., 3D monoliths);

(ii) elucidating fundamental mechanisms through spectroscopy and computational studies; and

(iii) developing modular and automated flow reactors using Key Enabling Technologies (KETs).

The ultimate goal is to achieve efficient, selective, and scalable pathways for hydrocarbon modification, thereby bridging the gap between laboratory research and industrial photocatalysis.
